Michael Jackson's Brain Today we studied another video called Leave Me Alone . We noticed there was a lot of landscapes, and background elements, and reviews and articles in the first part of the video. There was also a "3D effect" to it, images seemed to pop out of the screen. The pictures illustrate the lyrics (money is shown when MJ talks about money), and they also follow the rhythm of the song. For example, a mouth opens and closes with the beat. It could represent people talking about the singer in a bad way, or it could symbolize eating him alive. There are also lots of animals, it's a real bestiary. He seems to be lost in his own mind. We visit his brain, his ideas, his obsessions. In the end, he wants to escape all this, and destroys the amusement park (it's like a prison). He needs to rise. In the end, he is alone (it can be positive, he's free ; it can also be negative, he had to destroy and abandon everything). Warm Up Flying Dutchma...

Psycho : Arbogast's Death

Arbogast's Death Today we considered the death scene of Arbogast, in Psycho. We learnt a few things, such as the way Hitchcock built up the suspense and the audience's expectations. Then we compared scenes from different movies where people where falling, just to understand how it was made. Warm Up El Dorado as a myth. El Dorado was a person, covered in gold. Mythical figure?

Warm Up she died vs she was dead a heroine  an icon Thriller  Here are the ideas we developed about the lyrics of Thriller: zombies as fans / but not a very positive comparison the girl is always alone ; the monster too they will possess you unless you change that number on your dial = when you change your personality on your own, or other people will change it for you. no one's going to save you no mere mortals can't resist...   these lines are about loneliness. a phrase=an expression a ghoul / he bestiary in the song doesn't exist, it's a lie the monsters in the lyrics could represent the sins of MJ (not accepting himself) = punishment is due psycho technology scene detective the fall scene

Today we talked some more about warm ups, and we also started filling (to fill=remplir) the grid with the 6 different themes, with quotes from the Thriller song. Warm Up a scene Nirvana Guitarist / Guitar player He committed suicide / He killed himself mainstream / popular Dylan Carlson / Earth / AIC / SG / STP /  He wanted a new name. Right : "MJ will be my new name, no more Michael Jackson." He was interviewed by Lara Logan, from 60 Minutes . Wrong: Lara Logan searched Michael Jackson's things AFTER his death. He shocked the world.  Wrong : the letter was kept a secret. The letter was found in Michael Jackson's house. Right : "in the warehouse of Michael Jackson" He expresses his desire to change his way of working.  Right : "I will be a new singer [...] I will be magic, a perfectionist."   Thriller Then we watched the video for Thriller. It showed the fascination of Michael Jackson for shifting, changing identities : At first he's an actor in a romance, then a werewolf, then a teenager in a movie theatre, and he ultimately turns into a zombie. It's like a video versio...

A Discovery in Michael Jackson's House   The text was published in Sept. 2013. It's about M. Jackson. He wrote a letter when he was 21, a manifesto. Here are some points we think we understood: He wanted a new name. He was interviewed by Lara Logan, from 60 Minutes . He shocked the world.  The letter was found in Michael Jackson's house. He expresses his desire to change his way of working. A revolution about himself. something new. Homework Are our ideas right or wrong? try and justify by quoting from the text. Warm Up Elizabeth II [the second] fantasy / Tolkien [tolki:n] "from rags to riches"
