seats & forms of power 3

Ronald Reagan's Ideas -> Evil Empire Speech Today we finished talking about the Evil Empire speech by R. Reagan. In it, he denounces the USSR as an Evil Empire. He also accuses the Americans who wants to make peace with the Soviets, saying they betray ( ils trahissent ) their past and their freedom. He mentions that the origin of evil is not in gulags ( soviet state prisons ), but in offices with "quiet men in white collars." He finally claims ( prétend ) that Americans have to be ready for war, because the USSR have "aggressive impulses," and because they want to declare the omnipotence of Communism over the "individual man," and "all the peoples on the earth." The Evil Empire Speech 1/2 First, we tried and remembered what the Cold War was about. The USA and the USSR fought an indirect battle over sports, science, economy and culture (real wars were also fought with allies). This indirect, non armed conflicts were known as Soft Power. Then we started listening to Ronald Reagan's Evil Empire Speech. In it, president Reagan explained he once saw a man, a "very prominent man in the entertainment world," say in a public gathering ( meeting ) that he'd "rather see his daughters die now believing in God, than become Communist and die one day no longer believing in God."  Reagan himself was a famous actor in the 1950s, then became the Governor of California before being elected President.

Is Rocky a form of Power? Today we studied a picture. At first, we could see what looked like the American flag. What made us say that ( ce qui nous a fait dire ça ) is that it had the same colours as Stars & Stripes (white, red and blue). Beneath (under) the flag, there was a red shadow. At the bottom of the picture, there were two people holding an athlete. The athlete covered himself with the flag. We understood it was the poster for the Rocky IV movie, with Sylvester Stallone playing the role of Rocky.  We also noticed a glow, a light around Rocky's head. It's called a halo. It looked like a representation of Jesus, making Rocky a quasi-divine figure, a modern-day Messiah [mesai ə].

Warm Up electric car affordable above all heaven vs even Chinese Whispers Today we had an activity called "Chinese Whispers." We started with a story about a group of friends eating at a fast-food, getting sick and going to the hospital after that. A nurse tells them that they got sick because of chemical product added by the manager. Then, the story got changed progressively: a ghost was added, and then the fast-food restaurant was turned into a Mcdonald's restaurant. After a while, the food became poisonous and the group returned to the restaurant.

Eating Babies Today we studied the last set of documents of this session. The class was split into two groups, and each had a different document. Here are some of our questions and answers: "is it about a meal?" - "yes, it's about eating people." "where is it located?" - "it's located in Taiwan/Shangai, in China." "our text mentions an artist who set up an exhibition in China where he pretended to eat a human baby. But in fact, it was only a roasted duck presented with a baby doll's head." "our text is about a culinary trend in southeastern China where people can buy and eat dead babies." In fact, the last document is an urban legend, using photos from the exhibition, pretending those were real. psychology   [sai...] Ja pan on the Internet to de ci pher        a cipher
