The Goliath Effect 3/3 Today, we finished talking about the document. We understood that the Goliath Effect is based on a biblical story: GOLIATH -> a evil giant, a Philistine Tyrant (compared with the Coca-Cola Company) DAVID -> a good, human warrior. (ordinary people) ROCK / SLING  -> weapon used to kill Goliath (rumours, urban legends) We have a love/hate relationship with these big corporations
Reading the Goliath Effect 1/2 Today we started reading Gary Alan Fine's text. It had difficult vocab, but we managed to understand that it deals with "suspicion of big business."  Here's the words we found: - prevalent = ubiquitous (everywhere) - muckraking journalism = an unfair journalism, spreading rumours - a cornerstone = the most importance stone in a house - ambivalence = ambiguity - toward = in the direction of - folklore = knowledge of the people

It was about McDonald's urban legends, and about other big brands ; indeed, there's a thing called the Goliath effect, we're not sure, but we think it's when you talk about big companies, that's why their legends are spread more than with little companies. There's a story that claims McDonald's use worms in their burgers. It talks about Coke too.  indeed = en effet a brand = une marque  to claim = prétendre to pretend = faire semblant an ad (advertisement) = publicité

Today we read on two texts, but we didn't have the time to write a lesson, we'll do it next time. Homework for next time: try and ask at least one person which one of the following stories is true: 1. There's rat urine on Coke cans and it can be dangerous. 2. There used to be cocaine in Coke 3. The Coca-Cola Company changed the colours of Santa Claus. 4. There's acid in Coke and it can be dangerous if you drink too much of it. believability folkore chinese whispers warm up japanese animation film 2016 realized by 3 hours from orphan body swap random Freaky Friday throughout the world
