A Message for Anthony Dowdell's Death, A Dead Profile Today we read last time's text fully. It highlighted the importance Dowdell had on his numerous Facebook friends (we had near 700 of them). But how could they know? Nobody knew he was dead. so one of his "virtual friends" took to the social network and posted a message to communicate news of Dowdell's passing. Anthony was loved on social network, and his friends started tagging photos with his name, and they said it kept them all connected. It became their memorial , because they couldn't attend (=assister) his burial , they all lived too far away or they just learnt too late about his death. Some felt it was disrespectful of Dowdell's privacy, others said it helped them mourning.   warm up baby designer on the one hand / on the other hand eugenics Down syndrome ethical issue transhumanism Sci-fi

Anthony Dowdell, and Facebook Today we started studying a text about death and Facebook. It told the story of Anthony Dowdell, who died recently. One of his friends said something about social networks and Facebook especially. It must be a witness about mourning, and social media, and the Internet. The black squares hide textual elements. Virtual Mourning Today we finished talking about the episode of Black Mirror. The woman finds an email in her mailbox that says her friend Sara has signed her up to a special software. Sara explains how it works: it feeds off the deceased's public posts and messages, and it will imitate the dead person. She even says it will become even more realistic if it's given access to private messages and emails. She finally decides to try the software to tell someone she's pregnant. Digital Life After Death Today we started watching passages from a series called Black Mirror . It began with a couple driving at night together. The man is obsessed with his phone, he seems addicted to it. The day after, he leaves the house alone, but doesn't come back. He must have had an accident (he was using his phone before he left).  Later on, the scene changes to the burial ceremony, because the man died. A friend tells the woman she knows something that could help her. She's reluctant, sad and angry. Her friend says she has to sign up, and that she could speak with Ash, even if he's dead. She also adds it's not spiritual, and that it would help her mourn. to mourn    ->  to feel extremely sad because someone had died. reluctant     -> not willing to do something. to sign up   -> to join (a website) to sign in    -> to access a website

"I'm Peter Pan in my Heart" Today we listened to an interview of Michael Jackson. We said: We are utterly convinced that it was about MJ's amusement park called Neverland. We feel that he lives inside a bubble, he sounds crazy. He compares Peter Pan with never growing up and youth. We doubt that he felt like him.  We are positive that he had the Peter Pan Syndrome. This syndrome is when adults don't want to grow up, and want to stay children all the time, just like when the interviewer says Neverland is a paradise for teenagers but not really for a 44 adult.
