Worksongs 3 : A Secret Code
Today we recapped what we learnt so far:
1. Go Down Moses is a religious song that deals with the sufferings of the Hebrews in Egypt, and their liberation by the prophet Moses.
2. this Gospel song has another meaning: African-Americans were slaves like the Jews, and they compared their situation with the story in the Bible.
3. There is a third meaning, a secret code in the song.
We studied a text about this secret code, and we had questions about it. Next time we'll share our answers.
