Myths & Heroes 2
The Frontispiece
Today we studied the first few pages of Robinson Crusoe. We noticed there was an engraving (une gravure, une eau-forte) describing the hero. In the background, we could see a boat that was sinking (to sink, couler). The title indicates that this book about Robinson Crusoe is "written by himself," we can conclude it's an autobiography. It's also the third edition. If the book went through many editions, that could mean it was popular / successful.
Finally, R.C. is depicted (=described) with his weapons again (two guns and a sword).

This book was probably aimed at ordinary people with ordinary lives, because it was teeming with adventure. Robinson Crusoe was the epitome of adventure.
