A Documentary about what inspired Daniel Defoe

Today we listened to an audio document about the inspiration behind R.C. Here's what we understood:
This is about an island that inspired R.C. The real person who was there was Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish sailor (A.S., marin écossais...) who stayed for 4 years from 1704 to 1708. A British ship came by and took him back to London, where he became a celebrity. Alexander Selkirk became a famous castaway.
On the island were small caves that were used as hideouts by pirates. His story inspired Daniel Defoe when he wrote his novel.
This document sounds like a documentary with its commentator, and the background music.

To fall out with someone    se disputer avec quelqu'un (on s'entendait bien avant)
To duly oblige                     accepter avec joie

to hitch a ride
he was something of a celebrity
to be dotted with
a cave
evocative of the times
a hideout
isolation

uninhabited
in honour
a castaway
