Today we spoke about writing conclusions.
Here are a few points to remember before writing an essay:
- Try and start by writing your conclusion. It'll help you focus when you write the bulk (le gros) of your commentary or essay, and if you write your introduction in the end, it'll be coherent with the rest.
- Use proper vocab and expression. Now is the time to use extraordinary words. This is the last thing the teacher is going to read before giving you a mark.
- Try and be concise. You don't want your conclusion to exceed a fifth of your total number of words (for 300 words, it'll be around 60 words)
- You can try and follow that order:
- 1st sentence (especially important during an oral presentation, don't hesitate to repeat the Question right there)
- Summary of the main points (ideally, one sentence per point)
- Definitive answer to the Question (make sure to get your point across)
- An opening (Not necessary, use with caution)
